This is strange. Which distro are you using? did you compile Kdenlive by yourself or is it a package? Which desktop are you using: KDE or Gnome?, and last question: can you try disabling Desktop effects

Hello J-B-M I am using

Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala

and I used the Synaptic to get Kdenlive installed in my Laptop, Sorry I am preatty new in Ubuntu I dont know how can I help further to get rid of this problem.

During my last video I got many errors and problems that closed kdenlive, but I didnt have enougth time to elaborate the report, I will look to do that in future.

Using Kdenlive this way is not so easy.

Kind regards

Seems like it is an Xorg / driver issue, as reported in that bug:
http://kdenlive.org/mantis/view.php?id=1246

The reporter had an intel video driver, and solved the issue using the following steps:

SOLVED -> Intel driver issue. Upgrade to xserver-xorg-video-intel 2.9.1 and the transitions are visible now.

Solution:

Adding the repo from https://edge.launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/ppa [^]

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/xorg-edgers/ppa/ubuntu [^] karmic main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/xorg-edgers/ppa/ubuntu [^] karmic main

to /etc/apt/sources.list

Import the PGP key

sudo apt-get update && apt-get upgrade
