Hello everyone! I am excited about installing and using Kdenlive. I like the GUI, features, and options but I can not do much at all that I would want to do if I can't put effects into my videos. The problem is not the video playback when I put the video in the timeline to begin with but when I add an effect... all of the sudden the video lags and gets choppy. How do I combat this?

---- Besides being a new user of Kdenlive, I am a new user of Linux and use Ubuntu 9.10. Keep this in mind when presenting solutions please. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE

What computer hardware do you use? If the computer isn't fast enough it won't be able to keep up with the video frame rate when rendering the transistions and special effects during playback in kdenlive. Also if you don't have enough RAM the computer might have to swap to disk and that slows things down even more.

EDIT: However, when you render the project the output video should be fine even if the computer is slow.

is there a way to enable "playback rendering"?

i mean, in cinelerra you can activate an option that renders in background the whole project, so when you play it actually plays that temporal render.

for projects with lot of effects it really helps, even if you have a poor machine.

im not sure how kdenlive handles playback, but if this issue isn't contemplated i'll file a feature request.
