Hi all,
I installed Ubuntu 9.1 and Kdenlive 0.7.6

The preview of timeline in project monitoring window does not work on my installation: playback on clip monitoring is fine, but if I play on project monitoring I see only a black window.

I tried to change settings of video playback to X11 and Xvideo but with those things are also worse because kdenlive crashes. So I came back to automatic.

However I can hear proper audio during project monitoring preview.

Is there anybody that can help me?

Thanks

I think I found the problem. I transcoded the clip and now it works!
Original clip had this format:

Input #0, mpegts, from '00324.MTS':
Duration: 00:00:16.80, start: 1.000033, bitrate: 17490 kb/s
Program 1
Stream #0.0[0x1011]: Video: h264, yuv420p, 1920x1080 [PAR 1:1 DAR 16:9], 50 fps, 50 tbr, 90k tbn, 50 tbc
Stream #0.1[0x1100]: Audio: ac3, 48000 Hz, stereo, s16, 256 kb/s
Stream #0.2[0x1200]: Subtitle: pgssub

I transcoded using dnxhd 1920x1080 and now it works!
Great!!!

There was a bug in Ubuntu 9.10's SDL version 1.2.13 that affected some systems. They have fixed it in version 1.2.14, in the lucid repository. I am not sure the best way to install just that and any necessary dependents from the lucid repo and not mess up anything else on your system.

which SDL package is it about ? (that needs to be taken from lucid repos to fix the issue)

I think a friend of mine has got the same problem. Video preview is broken, makes kdenlive crash.
BTW, it is the same problem with 'openshotvideo' software but kino is running fine.

hope it helps to "diagnose" the issue (graphic card/driver ? or something else)

The only resolution is to upgrade SDL. The package is libsdl1.2debian. It affects OpenShot as well since it too uses MLT. Kino does not SDL and is not affected. Not all SDL players like ffplay are affected; some particular SDL feature that MLT uses triggers it. Thankfully, Lucid will be out very soon!
