Hello -
Kdenlive is a wonderful piece of software. Unfortunately, I'm having a number of problems trying to render my project, which is about an hour long. Inputs are:
I have a bunch of transitions set up (wipe/disolve) as well as fade to and from black, and some audio transitions and fades. The issues I have had are these:
Please let me know if you know what is causing all these troubles? I'll list some specification of my system and versions of software that I think is relevant below. Let me know if more information is needed - I'll be happy to furnish more information or retest if this can help to get everything running smoothly. System is 64 bit Ubuntu Lucid on a 3.4 GHz Phenom 2 quad core, with two SATA drives in software RAID 1 and 4GB of ram. These are version numbers of Ubuntu packages. I can look for versions of individual files if necessary, let me know what you need:
This is the error log of attempting to render the DVD format file:
Thank you! Michiel |

i don't have any problems rendering to mp4 format using x264 10k 2 pass and aac audio. My software is newer then your though. look into upgrading to find out if this is the cause.
kdenlive =same version as yours melt= 0.5.6-0ubuntu0~sunab~lucid1 from sanub's PPA here: deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/sunab/ppa/ubuntu lucid main deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/sunab/ppa/ubuntu lucid main ffmpeg=4:SVN-r24901-1 x264=2:0.104.1698+gitc41b8f0-1 as for libavformat, i activated the medibuntu repo which i believe you're already using. NOTE: ffmpeg and x264 are installed using this google bash script: http://code.google.com/p/x264-ffmpeg-up-to-date/ Good luck |

Thanks for response.
I have not made any changes yet, but things got worse tonight for unknown reason. Now Kdenlive crashes every time I load my project. This seems to happen while generating thumbnails for audio mp3's. If I start it from a terminal, I find this on stderr: [mp3 @ 0x7f38241ca6b0]mdb:51, lastbuf:0 skipping granule 0 Last message repeated 1 times [mp3 @ 0x7f38241ca6b0]mdb:51, lastbuf:0 skipping granule 1 [mp3 @ 0x7f38241ee260]mdb:51, lastbuf:0 skipping granule 0 Last message repeated 1 times [mp3 @ 0x7f38241ee260]mdb:51, lastbuf:0 skipping granule 1 [mp3 @ 0x7f38243897c0]mdb:68, lastbuf:0 skipping granule 0 Last message repeated 1 times [mp3 @ 0x7f38243897c0]mdb:68, lastbuf:0 skipping granule 1 Last message repeated 1 times [mp3 @ 0x7f38243834d0]mdb:68, lastbuf:0 skipping granule 0 Last message repeated 1 times [mp3 @ 0x7f38243834d0]mdb:68, lastbuf:0 skipping granule 1 Last message repeated 1 times [mp3 @ 0x7f38243d0370]mdb:68, lastbuf:0 skipping granule 0 Last message repeated 1 times [mp3 @ 0x7f38243d0370]mdb:68, lastbuf:0 skipping granule 1 Last message repeated 1 times [mp3 @ 0x7f38243c86b0]mdb:68, lastbuf:0 skipping granule 0 Last message repeated 1 times [mp3 @ 0x7f38243c86b0]mdb:68, lastbuf:0 skipping granule 1 Last message repeated 1 times [mp3 @ 0x7f38244128f0]mdb:68, lastbuf:0 skipping granule 0 Last message repeated 1 times [mp3 @ 0x7f38244128f0]mdb:68, lastbuf:0 skipping granule 1 Last message repeated 1 times [mp3 @ 0x7f3824380500]mdb:68, lastbuf:0 skipping granule 0 Last message repeated 1 times [mp3 @ 0x7f3824380500]mdb:68, lastbuf:0 skipping granule 1 Last message repeated 1 times [mp3 @ 0x7f382444e860]mdb:6, lastbuf:0 skipping granule 0 [mp3 @ 0x7f3824442040]mdb:6, lastbuf:0 skipping granule 0 [mp3 @ 0x7f3824499630]mdb:13, lastbuf:0 skipping granule 0 [mp3 @ 0x7f38244933b0]mdb:13, lastbuf:0 skipping granule 0 [mp3 @ 0x7f38244c0610]mdb:68, lastbuf:0 skipping granule 0 Last message repeated 1 times [mp3 @ 0x7f38244c0610]mdb:68, lastbuf:0 skipping granule 1 Last message repeated 1 times [mp3 @ 0x7f38244d7ff0]mdb:68, lastbuf:0 skipping granule 0 Last message repeated 1 times [mp3 @ 0x7f38244d7ff0]mdb:68, lastbuf:0 skipping granule 1 Last message repeated 1 times [mp3 @ 0x7f38244d06d0]mdb:68, lastbuf:0 skipping granule 0 Last message repeated 1 times [mp3 @ 0x7f38244d06d0]mdb:68, lastbuf:0 skipping granule 1 Last message repeated 1 times [mp3 @ 0x7f38244334c0]mdb:68, lastbuf:0 skipping granule 0 Last message repeated 1 times [mp3 @ 0x7f38244334c0]mdb:68, lastbuf:0 skipping granule 1 Last message repeated 1 times [mp3 @ 0x7f3824556030]mdb:21, lastbuf:0 skipping granule 0 [mp3 @ 0x7f382454a510]mdb:21, lastbuf:0 skipping granule 0 [mp3 @ 0x7f3824594620]mdb:53, lastbuf:0 skipping granule 0 [mp3 @ 0x7f38245759d0]mdb:53, lastbuf:0 skipping granule 0 [mp3 @ 0x7f38245d2120]mdb:46, lastbuf:0 skipping granule 0 Last message repeated 1 times [mp3 @ 0x7f38245d2120]mdb:46, lastbuf:0 skipping granule 1 [mp3 @ 0x7f38245c1f80]mdb:46, lastbuf:0 skipping granule 0 Last message repeated 1 times [mp3 @ 0x7f38245c1f80]mdb:46, lastbuf:0 skipping granule 1 KCrash: Application 'kdenlive' crashing... Hmm, I added Sunab's ppa and updated melt and also ran the ffmpeg script (I'd prefer not to bypass the package system though), but no luck. I seem to be stuck with it crashing while loading the project now.
I'll try to figure out what's happening. |

Please try to delete the thumbnails cache (the files in the
thumbs directory).
A general suggestion from my side is to avoid mp3 files whenever possible (convert them to wav instead). I always had trouble when working with mp3 files, perhaps this has changed now, but I prefer to remain on the secure side and avoid nasty issues. You can use the command line to convert them directly with ffmpeg: $ export IFS=$'\n'; for i in *.mp3; do j=$(echo $i|sed -e 's/\.mp3/.wav/'); ffmpeg -i $i $j; done
(IFS is the internal field separator; setting it to newline only for this command prevents bash from separating file names at white spaces as well.) |

Thanks for those suggestions. I've had issues with mp3 files. However, I made progress without this.
Somehow by uninstalling and reinstalling Kdenlive and Mlt, I'm now able to load my project again. I tried a bunch of things and I don't know what actually fixed things. But I think I've figured something out. I'm now able to render successfully. It seems that the key to this is to make sure the Video Profile in the Project Settings matches the format that I'm rendering to. I don't see why things should work this way, I thought Video Profile was just a preset, but I'm happy that I can now render! |

The error message "first_image == NULL get image died" occurs inside the Speed effect. That effect is somewhat unstable depending on the file format and how well it supports seeking. It appears as if a h264/mp3 clip is struggling to cooperate. You might try to see if removing that effect helps.

Hello
I've got the same experience. Running Kdenlive 7.7.1 under Kubuntu 10.04.2 LTS. I've got around 63 clips in my movie, around 95 per cent of them have the Speed effect applied to slow it down. Clips are H.264 encoded from Sony HD camcorder. I can't render the movie, it always crashes at some point with the same error message as I see in this thread. However, I was able to render the e.g. 1 min part of the movie, where it crashes (half minute before, half minute after), so what I have done as a workaround was to put guides into movie: START, MIDDLE, END and then render 2 movies (START - MIDDLE, MIDDLE - END) without any problem. Then I have joined these parts together with either mencoder or avimerge tools easily. Does anybody know about some more convenient solution for this type of error? Many thanks. |
