Have you tested to see if your webcam works with Cheese or Skype or any other sort of webcam video chat software prior to testing to see if it works in Kdenlive? If not then you should browse around on ubuntuforums.org to see if there is a post about getting webcam drivers to work from the Synaptic Package Manager.

ffmpeg, which Kdenlive uses, currently only works with uncompressed web cams AFAIK. I think there was some LD_PRELOAD hack to workaround that [1]. There is a large variety of web cams and how they encode. jbm has been doing some new work on webcam capture since the last release. I do not know the state of it; I actually do not have any webcams.
You posted 7 times but but did not ever identify your type of camera! Regardless, I would say either it is compatible or not, and it certainly appears not. I suggest that you just use a program that is compatible it to make a capture and then use the video it created in Kdenlive. [1] https://roundup.ffmpeg.org/issue1816 |

I had the same issue. In my case, the audio capture was using oss and /dev/dsp. Some googling with ffmpeg command; I changed that to audio device - pulse and format - alsa. Everything works just fine.

I'm seeing this with Kdenlive 0.8 in both Kubuntu 10.10 & 11.04. The webcam is a Logitech Webcam C300 which works fine in Skype, Kopete and I can even use it in Kdenlive to do stop motion animation.

Trying to configure my Logitech QwickCam and notice some were successful using ffmpeg. Would you kindly share the command so I can use it also? Thanks!.. :)
