In a terminal type

melt -version

Distro means what flavour and version of linux are you running. Eg
Ubuntu 12.04 is mine

Other - Mint, Open Suse, Slackware etc

Are you opening a .kdenlive file (a kdenlive project file) or are your trying to add a video file to the project tree or are you adding a video file to the timeline from the project tree.

Consider trying 0.9.3 beta version available

https://launchpad.net/~sunab/+archive/kdenlive-svn

This is builds of the soon to be release 0.9.3 (or maybe it will be called 0.9.4) and there are lot of bug fixes in this up comming release.

I installed the ppa:sunab/kdenlive-svn but Kdenlive is still at the 0.9.2 version.

I'm opening a project file.
It doesn't give the same number every time i try.

The last time i tried was :

PID : 4878 Segmentation fault 11

with this :

Does the clip play in mplayer or other players?

As a workaround: Maybe you can transcode the clip into some other format? If the transcoding software stalls or complains about something, your clip might be corrupt and unusable.

What is the source, something like mediainfo will tell you. Can you play it on the command line with ffplay? What does ffprobe tell you about the file?

I've experienced same sort of crashes with certain RGB sources in a mov container like dumb 35mm grain and film burn type overlays.

"I installed the ppa:sunab/kdenlive-svn but Kdenlive is still at the 0.9.2 version"

This is not right. Might need to restart the PC to kill off old kdnelive sessions or something.

Because ppa:sunab/kdenlive-svn is 0.9.3

ppa:sunab/kdenlive-release is 0.9.2

Hi,

It's a KDEnlive file i try to open, not a basic clip. It's actually containing around 50 clips and i spent 20 hours editing videos and music.

Last try when opening file "boubou.kdenlive" :

Re: KDE crashes when opening a file

I confirm the version of 0.9.2 of KDEnlive after installing
ppa:sunab/kdenlive-svn

and a restart of the computer.

I should try to delete old versions, yes.

Which way do you suggest ?

Delete all versions of kdenlive, make a clean install from sunap ppa and please stop posting the error messages. The changing number does not help - this is what it is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Process_identifier
