I had the same problem for some time. Only when I did a kernel upgrade did it solve the problem in Kubuntu.

On the MLT mailing list, we recently fixed one a/v sync problem that may occur when the codec and the muxer do not agree on the frame rate. If you run 'ffmpeg -i yourfile' to get info on the encoding and it reports this inconsistency then you may be affected. If you are building MLT from source, then please try the latest git. In the course of that discussion, there is still an a/v synch problem the reporter is suffering with another format, but I am waiting for some debug log info to help him.
For rendering, this issue should be independent of the kernel version. However, I could see how a kernel version could affect the A/V during playback. |

Yes, it was strange and made kdenlive unusable. I spend hours searching and trying to find a solution. After the kernel upgrade I tried again and was happy to find the problem gone. Now there's one less reason to use my windows machine.
Will Kdenlive remain open source? if so, is there a way to donate? can't see it in the contribute tab! Great piece of work! |

Maybe this is related to http://www.kdenlive.org/mantis/view.php?id=1102. But I'm using kernel 2.6.31-7, so maybe not.

Tonight, I found and fixed an A/V sync regression in MLT 0.4.4 as a result of fixing kdenlive bug 854. This is not a general regression - only some files were affected. Unfortunately, I do not have an easy way to determine if your problem is related to this regression other than to update MLT from its Git tree (new releases should be soon) and try it.

Hey guys, if I render my DV videos into like xvid .avi files prior to editing them, would that fix the problem? Would there be a better format prior to editing?
Thanks, Lexen |

For those of you wondering, no it doesn't work. At least not when I convert the files using kdenlive. The files come out just as out of sync as the rendered project.
What I am going to try next would be to render the file using another program like kino and see if that helps. |

Lexen, you should not have A/V sync problems when using DV files. Place a single DV on a timeline, render it to something, and then play the rendered file in player that you know works well for you (e.g. does not have A/V sync problem due to PulseAudio). Is it out of sync? If not, does Kdenlive just have A/V sync problems when playing?

When I do that it is still out of sync. It plays fine in kdenlive, but it won't when exported.

For those of you who are having the same problem, I found a work around. I exported the audio and the video separately by unchecking the "export audio" button on the export screen then rendering. For the audio, just go to the "audio only" menu in the destination. Then I opened the audio file in Audacity and changed the speed to -0.020 then exported it as an mp3 file. You can also use .wav, but you cannot use .ogg. I then opened the video in avidemux, went to the audio tab and selected main track. Pick Audio Source: External MP3 (or wav if you used that file type). Save and your good.

Hey guys, I still can't get this to work. The fix I posted above isn't working like I thought it did and I cannot figure out what is the matter. I have used the 3 different versions of kdenlive, 3 versions of ubuntu and I have used the live DVD and I still get the same problem. In kdenlive, the video is synced, but it is not when it is exported.
I am exporting videos of concerts, so you would have just 5 clips and fade between them. When you export it (in any format I have tried) each band starts in sync, but then it is around a full second off by the end of their set. Then, when the next band starts (and a transition between them) the video is in sync, but it will also go out of sync by the end of their set. I use kdenlive every day for editing, but I cannot get it to work no matter what I do. The only thing I can think is it has something to do with either the files I am working with, or the project data. For the concerts I use my DV Camcorder (Canon ZR800), but I also film an open mic night ever week and for that I use my picture camera that saves the files to an SD stick. I recently exported a project for an open mic that I got to work by splitting the audio and video and syncing it up between every set. I could do this because it showed how out of sync the file is, but with DV files, it acts like nothing is wrong. For my DV videos (widescreen) I use "DV/DVD Widescreen NTSC" and for the ones filmed with my camera I use "DV/DVD NTSC." The part that bugs me is that I am not new to kdenlive. I have been using it for years, but when I updated kdenlive about 5 months ago, it got all messed up and I can't get back to that. Sorry for going on for so long, I just really need help and I wanted to make sure I accurately described my situation. Thanks for any help you can give, Lexen |
