Audio sync keeps shifting in timeline. Undo puts back 50% of time.

Working with AVI files from a Canon S3 camera on Ubuntu 9.04 64bit.

If I simply add a clip from the project tree to the timeline, it's fine. If I move it, or cut it, it's fine. Once I've added a 2nd clip to another row, things get flaky. Moving things about and sometimes adding transitions causes the audio to go out of sync on some clips. There's no way to get it back without using undo. Sometimes undo crashes things.

Sound quality is fine, but I've followed the instructions here anyway:
http://kdenlive.org/user-manual/troubleshooting-and-common-problems/sound-bad-and-delayed

Except for total removal. Everything is set to use ALSA.

Sync problems in the timeline also appear on the render. Please help a newbie! :)
