Hi
I've been using Kdenlive for a while now, to edit my family movies. Really simple really: look through several short movies to keep only the best part (cut) and paste all the bits one after the over with a simple transition effect (1s dissolve). Probably what most people do when editing videos... I used Movie Maker once, and there was one feature that I found really suited to my needs: their story board (see pic: http://www.microsoft.com/library/media/16393/india/windows/images/windows-vista/features/01TitleshotofMovieMaker.jpg) Is there anything similar in Kdenlive? I know how to use the default timeline to do what I want to do, but it's very repetitive and quite annoying to have to overlay clips by one second. it's a small thing but that would make a difference. Some other things that I find problematic with Kdenlive's rendering: - how come output format depends on the codec? Why does it have to be MP4 with h264 and not AVI? - For the sake of consistency, I am trying to have all my videos in the same format, codec and bitrate. It's a pain to have to remember every time what bitrate and codec I used the last time (I edit videos every one or 2 months only). It would be so nice to have a list of profile, very much like what OgmRip has (see pic: http://www.cyrille-borne.com/public/images/ogmrip02.jpeg). - would be really cool too to be able to queue jobs and launch them all at the end. So that I can spend 2 hours one evening editing several movies, and render them during the night. Rather than render them one by one. I tried to use the "Generate Script" button but the produced script failed... That was some time ago so I forgot the detail, maybe I should try again and report a bug if it fails again... |

Re: "- how come output format depends on the codec? Why does it have to be MP4 with h264 and not AVI?"
It does not have to be; you can make custom profile. We are trying to encapsulate some good practices. It is not good practice to put H.264 in AVI. (It is not good practice to use AVI, in general). MP4 is the standard container according to ISO/IEC. Re: "It's a pain to have to remember every time what bitrate and codec I used the last time" OMG! There is a favorites feature right there in the Render dialog staring at you. Use it. Re: "would be really cool too to be able to queue jobs and launch them all at the end." You can save your projects individually. Then at the end of the night, you can start the first one, let it continue in the background, load another project, render it, which adds it to the queue, and so on. |
