There is something wrong with your specific openSUSE-11.4 setup. This is not a generic problem.
I have kdenlive running with no problem on a 64-bit openSUSE-11.4 (PC is an Intel Core i7 920 with 6GB RAM and nVidia GTX260 graphic card) with the 'stock' KDE 4.6.00 (4.6.0) "release 6" desktop. I have same mlt and kdenlive and it 'just works'. Software: oldcpu@corei7:~> rpm -qa '*nlive*' '*mlt*' libmlt3-0.6.2-1.pm.1.3.x86_64 mlt-0.7.0-1.pm.3.1.x86_64 libmlt++3-0.7.0-1.pm.3.1.x86_64 kdenlive-0.8-1.pm.1.3.x86_64 libmlt4-0.7.0-1.pm.3.1.x86_64 |

I don't think you should need it. Try renaming /home/your-username/.kde4/share/apps/kdenlive/ to /home/your-username/.kde4/share/apps/kdenlive/-old and also rename /home/your-username/kdenlive/ to /home/your-username/kdenlive-old/ and see if kdenlive will start then. |

I can't explain why this 'just works' for me on openSUSE-11.4 and it does not for you.
I do note this thread with similar ( ? ) symptoms on Ubuntu .... http://www.kdenlive.org/forum/crash-startup-cannot-get-capabilities If I read that thread correctly, the application v4l2 was missing ? Do you have libv4l2 installed ? (note this is speculation on my part). |

Fixed! It won't run cuz I installed the oxygen-transparent script.
