Lossless Snow video codec support

Thu Aug 30, 2007 1:39 pm

Dear friends,

I am curious to know if there are plans to add ffmpeg snow lossless video codec.

I read commits in ffmpeg SVN and looked at this description on Wikipedia : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snow_(codec)

I would love to see a lossless video codec in Kdenlive other than AVI dv to store my videos.

Of course a lossless video codec is only important when/if MLT supports non-destructive rendering.

This would allow me to convert my AVI DV and other files before working on them in Kdenlive.

Kind regards,

Jean-Michel

Well if FFMPEG can play and seek it, it can probably be used in Kdenlive.

If someone wants to do some export tests, just create a custom encoder and try to find the best avformat parameters, then I can add it to the standard encoder list. I do not have the time to do these tests by myself now.

warning dv is only vagly lossless if recorded from a dv. though even then i would be hesitant to call it lossless
