REDONE support in progress

Tue Jan 20, 2009 8:22 am

Dear Friends,

Just a quick note that FFmpeg SVN 2009-01-20 supports REDCODE streams format. REDONE provides cameras for the cinema using a modular design, with 2k to 4k sensors. Kdenlive can edit the raw streams, but not yet record video from the camera, although this may be possible buy yet untested.

I hope that one day Kdenlive can be used to edit a complete movie. Kdenlive is not yet ready but one day it will be able to perform such tasks.

Kind regards,

Jean-Michel

I tried to playback some redone footage (4k, *.R3D) yesterday with ffplay (freshly compiled ffmpeg) but it reports that the codec is unrecognizable or something similar. Is there a special configure option that enables this or am I doing something wrong?

Which footage did you use?

I am testing http://www.redrelay.net/owners/0476/r3d/A008_C019_000520_001.R3D and will report back.

Problem confirmed. The codec is not recognized. I posted on FFmpeg dev mailing list.

Okay, RED container is supported, but not RED video codec. Video codec is based on JPEG2000 and should follow soon.

I used some footage I had from a video I edited a while ago. I can't wait for this, as redcine (the software) is really sucky on windows right now.
