Dear Friends,

With Kdenlive 0.7.4 and MLT 0.4.x available under GNU/Linux, FreeBSD and MacOsX, it is becoming essential to advocate outside Kdenlive forum to reach video communities around the world. Some will call it viral maketing. I prefer to speak about "advocacy".

Here is a short guide showing how to advocate for Kdenlive:

1) Understand who are the leadership video editing communities in your country

For example, in France, Le repaire http://www.repaire.net/forums/ is a leading forum. It is a central point for both amateurs and professionals. So it is important that these people know about Kdenlive. Why ? Because they may give us important information and feedback, even if they don't use Kdenlive on a day-to-day basis.

2) Register the community in our database: http://www.kdenlive.org/link-community
If you don't have access to the database, please answer this post to tell us which community is a leader and in which country.
Usually, there are on or two leading communities in each country.

2) Post an announcement about Kdenlive 0.7.4 and MLT 0.4.x

Always use the same thread to avoid spam.
For example: http://www.repaire.net/forums/apple-video-mac-logiciels/204502-logiciel-libre-kdenlive-disponible-macosx.html

Try to post in Linux and MacOsX sub-forums.
Don't fed-up and bore people with long announcements.

Also do not double-post! Make sure that Kdenlive is not already known and discussed.

3) What impact?

In fact, the impact can be quite important for a community like ours. After my posts on Le repaire (France), I notices hundreds of connections to our website. With Kdenlive 0.7.4, there is no reason not to gain hundreds of new users.

So i propose to declare the 11 June (today) to 14 June 2009 (Sunday night) the advocacy days. Let us try to communicate about Kdenlive in a team to gain new members in the community.

Some screenshot of kdenlive running under Mac OS X will be really useful. Can someone provide them and complete the "Screenshots" area here so we can point interested people?

Rest assured that if it works out well for me I'll be shouting about it from the rooftops! :)

The OS X version of kdenlive is not actually usable yet.

I just realized that. Can we make it usable quickly?

I do not think it is a trivial fix to embed a SDL window inside Qt on OS X. It also needs to be sizable. Just trying to resize the SDL window that melt creates causes a crash in SDL.
