hi, melt looks handy for playing out .kdenlive files without encoding, is it possible to frame serve with it by means of a sign post .avi file, I guess piping to another app would be another option but not suitable for the situation I have in mind.

The whole overloading of the VFW API is purely a windows hack. Use a named pipe. If you need a control interface you would use a socket. (But I doubt MLT/Melt has functionality built in for using sockets. And even if it did, the connecting client would have to use the same command and control lingo.)

Piping I don't think will work on this occasion as I need to go through avisynth and wish to avoid an intermediate file. A yuv2avs rather than avs2yuv, any thoughts?
