I have two different computers that I am using Ubuntu 9.04 on two different computers but having the same problem on both.
I have an Acer Aspire One with a built in web cam that I am not able to capute video with using Kdenlive. Because I couldn't get the Acer working with Kdenlive, I tried using Kdenlive on another computer. I also have a Compaq nc6320 that I have physically connected with firewire to Panasonic 700x mini DV palmcorder. I am not able to connect to the palmcorder in the record monitor to capture video. :( I actually use the Acer and not really the Compaq. I really would like to get Kden working on both computers. I saw the other posts about not being able to capture but I have no clue where to go on the computer to try those things. Please Help |

Many webcams send compressed images, and ffmpeg, which we use, can not handle that. You need to investigate that using some video4linux utilities.
Typically, when FireWire does not work, it is because you do not have permission. Shocking, I know! Look at Common Problems under Support on this site. |

When you say "Many webcams send compressed images, and ffmpeg, which we use, can not handle that.", do you mean that Kdenlive can't handle using the webcam because it uses compressesd images or ffmpeg? I jsut want to be sure I understand you correctly.
Thanks for your reply. I will do research in those subjects to suggested. I am very appreciative of your input because I am really fish out water on this and really need to have this working as of three weeks ago. :( Any other info you think that will be helpful to me will be very much appreciated. Again, Thanks |

I meant that ffmpeg does not support compressed images/video through its video4linux module. Kdenlive just invokes ffmpeg as a child process to capture from V4L.

Could you suggest any configuration that may support cameras that send compressed images? In video4linux settings there are lots of configuration options. If you say ffmpeg can't handle compressed video can we use something else instead of ffmpeg here?
Thanks. |
