I have separate video and audio clips. Some of the audio clips are a little bit longer or shorter than the video clips. E.g. 4s 880ms vs 4s 720ms.

What is the best way to import these clips to be in sync as much as possible. Is there a way to "align" the video and the audio at the beginning? How would you do this with a few hundreds of short video and audio files?

If you have snapping activated (default) it should be easy to place them on the timeline so they start together.
