A dark theme would be nice. Is there already way to do this or will it need a skin/theme option?

Kdenlive uses the standard KDE theme. If you want a dark color scheme, you can select one from the KDE control center, or download a theme from http://www.kde-look.org

I installed the Titanium theme ( from kde-look.org). And with kcontrol configured it a bit more to use the SGI Style. I like kdenlive even more now with this look. ANd yes, the timeline toolbar, with maximum buttons, is placed at the bottom.

if one does not want the dark theme for other kde apps, how can one make the look specific only to kdenlive?
