I've recently loaded Kdenlive on my laptop, which is using Ubuntu 9.4 for an o.s. When I load a clip, the video stutters and the audio is distorted. The files I am using are standard def files with a .mov file extention. Since the files stutter along in totem video player also, I imported them to kino which converted them to a .dv format. It will then work perfectly in Kino, but not in Kdenlive. Thinking that it may be a issue with the file type that my camera (Kodak Zi6 standard def/vga mode) outputs to, I tried to import other file types (.flv, mpeg, mp4, drac ect.) but the video still stutters and the sound is still distorted. Are there any settings that anyone would recomend for editing standard def videos that I may be overlooking? I can do basic editing in kino, but Kdenlive has more features and Kino isn't adding anything new. Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

Are you saying the .dv files Kino created do not play well in kdenlive? That is surprising. Here are some tests you can try to determine where things fall down. $ ffplay the.dv $ inigo the.dv or if you are in NTSC land: $ inigo -profile dv_ntsc the.dv any of those work OK?

I'm suffering from studdering preview playback as well when editing this kind of files:
$ ffmpeg -i 00050.avi ... Input #0, mov,mp4,m4a,3gp,3g2,mj2, from '00050.avi': Duration: 00:00:09.21, start: 0.000000, bitrate: 151332 kb/s Stream #0.0(eng): Video: mpeg4, yuv420p, 1920x1080 [PAR 1:1 DAR 16:9], 59.94 tbr, 59.94 tbn, 60k tbc Stream #0.1(eng): Audio: aac, 48000 Hz, stereo, s16 The files were converted with ffmpeg from Sony MTS format. Playback with mplayer and ffplay are fine even with deinterlacing and scaling options but inigo plays them maybe 5 frames per second with a lot of jitter. When editing in kdenlive, I can't really play them so I'm going forward one frame or a second at a time. Going backwards is even more slower. The editing machine is an AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3000+ with gigabyte of ram and a GeForce 8400 GS with NVidias closed source drivers. X is configured for 1024x768 and 24 bit colors. -Mikko |

Ok, I did some digging around my system and from what I see is that my laptop just doesn't have enough muscle to run KdenLive. I can run Kino fine but I guess The more advanced the features, the more resources You need to run it. Now I have an excuse to get a new laptop. If I could ask just one more question. In the features section of this website, under creative effects, there are a couple of effects ( technicolor, vignette, scratch lines) that are not listed in my effects menu. Are they listed in another area or do I have to download them? Thanks again for your help. |

Technicolor is a frei0r plugin. You need frei0r and a build of MLT with frei0r. Lines and vignetter are in the oldfilm plugin that has no special dependencies - you should have it. If not, the reason depends upon how it was built. |
