Dear Kdenlive community. I've been reading through the forums and to my great surprise I find very little in the way of actual video editing. There's a sub forum dedicated to Video Effects/Transitions, Audio and Rendering but very little in the way of actual editing. I've used NLE's extensively since the first releases of Avid and I've been a power user of things like Radius EditDV, Final Cut Pro and Premiere Pro and my complete focus is on the actual art of editing. And the Art of Editing requires a few basics in the tool kit. To me effects and transitions are most of the time a poor craft mans last exit. A transition between two shots is not an actual 50% dissolve but involves motion and it's all about the cut. And to be able to cut correctly whe need the Moviola paradigm. We need the ability to play clips backwards and forward at several speeds and wee need JKL controls (not Jog - Jog is a hideous abomination of a tool). Secondary full screen play out is also essential to be able to psychologically judge the content of a sequence of shots and to place them correctly in a sequence. And responsiveness of "stop" is the most important of them all. It has to be absolutely dead on - or as close to it as possible (this is where Avid shines and why they are still the first choice in Hollywood). So that's kind of my wish list and I hope I don't sound like I'm complaining. I'm hoping to bring feedback to the table that can inspire future development. Best, |

Can't help you with the editing stuff - I reckon many of us are just happy amateurs :-) I really do like my jog shuttle, but I have filed a feature request for the JKL controls. Please have a look at http://www.kdenlive.org/mantis/view.php?id=176 and let me know if that reflects your comment? Regarding secondary full screen playout - I am not sure about how this is supposed to work, but one can undock the Project Monitor window and migrate that to another screen/desktop, if one has two monitors. Is that good enough, or is it something else you are after? And, you feedback does not all sound like complaining. At least not to me :-) Regards Mads |

In revison 2417, jb has implemented support for JKL controls (including IO) AFAICT. Would be nice with some feedback on wheter this is what is understood by JKL control. There are still issues with the precision/latency of "stop" (K), but this issue needs a bit more investigation to fix. |

And, the stop issue appears to have been resolved in rev. 2419. Please try it out, and give some more feedback :-) |
