Is there any way that one can select a clip in the project tree and immediately move the timeline to that very clip?
Thanks, Waynevid Kdenlive 0.7.8 rev4382 |

Perhaps there could be a right-click "In use at" sub-menu in the Project Tree panel, when a clip is selected, showing at what time in the timeline this clip is being used (the times shown would be the In-Point times of each clip instance in the timeline).
If the user selects one of those times, the corresponding clip would be selected in the timeline, and the visible timeline area adjusted to show that clip's In-Point. Just an idea. |

I will work on a "find in timeline" function, when I find some spare time. (probably this weekend)

For your info, there already is a search function for the timeline. It is in the "Edit" menu, under "Find" (shortcut is '/').
It allows you to search for strings in the clip names, guides and markers, and moves the timeline cursor to the place where the string is. Pressing F3 will skip to the next occurence. Not exactly what you are looking for, but maybe that could be extended to also look for clip id's... regards |

The search does find clips but it doesn't move the timeline cursor to the place where the clip is; unless there's something I missed.

Added in svn rev. 4386.
As you can see in the screenshot the occurrences are displayed in the format "track: position" @waynevid: for me it does move the cursor to the clip's position. |

I'm running revision 4382 and there is no "Clip in Timeline" on the menu.
I'll try 4386. Thanks, Waynevid |

Hey, that looks great!!
Thank you! This is exactly what I love from open source software. :)) |

I upgraded to revision 4391 today. Yes, the "Clip in Timeline" feature in the context menu is just what I've been looking for.
Thank you very much. Waynevid |

Just a thought, how about doing the reverse and go from a clip in the timeline to the same clip in the project tree?

Makes sense.
In Premiere if you right click over the clip in the timeline, you see a "Show in Project" option that selects the source clip in the Project (Tree) panel. In Kdenlive it perhaps could be named "Clip in Project Tree", to pair with the new "Clip in Timeline" option just added. That said, you can also rename clips in the timeline in "that other program" (i.e. timeline clips can have different names from its source clip in the Project Tree), which turns this function into a much more useful one. But if clips in Kdenlive can't be renamed (and always show their source name), perhaps this function is not so needed (unless you have tons of files loaded in the Project Tree, of course in that case it'd be useful too, just to be able to find it more quickly). |

I have many clips in the project tree and to find a certain clip you have to remember its name. Since edits can only be done from the project tree, it would be easier to just click on the clip in the timeline and be transfered to that same clip in the project tree for editing.

I added "clip in project tree" in svn rev. 4395
Hope it works well. |
