Lean Preview-mode for HD-Editing

Sat Apr 16, 2011 11:17 am
Hello,

again and again I read, that editing HD-material takes a most powerfull machine with 4+GB RAM and a Quadcore at least.

Very well but: who really needs the full resolution while cutting a film? Anyway the stuff is shown in the small preview-window so its real resolution does not matter much OK?

So would it not be interesting to have a feature, that allows to render HD-material into a leaner, meaner format for cutting/arranging a film? Tasks, that do not make sense without the real material involved (color-correction, sharpening etc) could be done by calling the original HD-material just for the purpose of setting up the parameters. Afterwards one could return to the leaner files for cutting/arranging, setting titles etc.
In the end the commands in the XML-project file would grab the original versions of the material to render the movie.

Is that already possible in KDEnlive?
If not, is there anybody else out there who would find such a lean-mode interesting?
Imagine: cutting a movie on a netbook and still having it rendered to full HD in the end ;-)

Hi

You can take a look to this thread:

http://www.kdenlive.org/forum/proxy-clips-hd-editing

.. and test it in the 0.79 version, but you have to build it.

On version 0.8 it seems that would be fully implemented.. I can't wait anymore for that release.
