As some of you know already, the Kdenlive builder wizard needs to be updated to be able to compile newer versions of kdenlive.
The builder wizard allows you to compile bleeding edge Kdenlive in a few clicks without any programming knowledge.
http://www.kdenlive.org/user-manual/downloading-and-installing-kdenlive/builder-wizard

When asked about it, this is what the builder wizard developer (Madsdyd) answered:
[...]
"I am not sure. I don't want to support kommander for KDE3 anymore, and I really do not want to port it to kommander for KDE4.

That sort of mean that I would need to rewrite it, possibly in pyQt. Which could be fun, but will also sink some hours for me. And, there will be errors in the new code, which I will need to fix, etc.

And, a final question: Do people still use this program (or want to use it?)..."
[...]

So if you are interested in seeing the builder wizard come back to life, show your support in this thread:

ARE YOU STILL USING THIS PROGRAM OR DO YOU WANT TO USE IT?

thanx.

Why do you need it instead of the stranded Ubuntu install? is it for other distributions who have to compile from source?

i use it on ubuntu to have the latest development version. In ubuntu repos you'll have version 0.75, if you use sunab repos 0.76 if you use the wizzard (if it was updated) you'll have what is going to be 0.77 with the latest add ons and bug fixes.

I've used it in the past and will do so in the future provided I can work out the dependencies and conflicts in my system. Hopefully a new version will be more successful for me.

I really liked it and used it alot about a year ago (Thanks). Now that kdenlive is pretty stable I haven't used it for awhile. So I guess it is great if you have the time, but doesn't seem as necessary to me as it used to. Geoff

I used it recently to build and install the latest Kdenlive & friends on my Karmic machine. It failed twice, once with an error re: x264 and another time with an error re: libtheora. Thanks to the log I figured out what went wrong, but I wonder how many people will skip reading the log and assume the installer just doesn't work. Perhaps it would be more helpful if the wizard reports the actual error instead of forcing the user to look for the problem in a log that may not be comprehensible to normal users.

Best,

I think it's great! Once you have it set up properly then installing the latest versions of ffmpeg/frei0r/mlt/kdenlive is just a few mouseclicks away - without messing up previous installs so you always have a working version. Very good for bug/featuretesting. If it's rewritten I volunteer to bugtest.

Hi

i use it and i can't imagine it doesn't exist ..

it's a very good tools for compile svn version without touch your whole system and libs ....

It's a big feature of kdenlive project and we NEED this tool ...

As long as someone is willing to maintain a working and up to date ppa repo for Ubuntu's current and previous release, I would much rather use that than the Builder Wizard.

maybe it's better to provide a weekly .deb of mlt and kdenlive (maybe even frei0r-plugins and ffmpeg) on ppa? it will be much easier to install, update and uninstall. it's hard to achieve a full uninstall when you doing a local compile on ubuntu/debian.

"maybe it's better to provide a weekly .deb of mlt and kdenlive (maybe even frei0r-plugins and ffmpeg) on ppa?"

ok and do you want to do this job, including build and testing for 4 or 5 major distributions including 32 and 64 bits and all this every week ?

no it's not serious, the buider wizard is the only solution for people who want/need svn version ...

if this appli is dead, a simple script testing libs dependancies and make all the compilations will be enough ... and this script are included in the builder wizard ...

I LOVE THIS SOTWARE !!

And in general we have to keep in mind that by using open source software we keep the media/internet content to have all voices to be heard. Video has become a popular way to educate people, hence the example of video tutorials on youtube, my firts steps in linux came from those ones.

I am involved in several community projects and for my own parties(yes I am a dj too) and I will ever support and promote open source software first than to download and cack Adobe Premier. I got sick of it long ago wich is why I am a happy person now using Linux. Join us, we've got cookies.
