Some newbie questions!!

Sat Jan 24, 2009 5:45 pm

Sorry if this gets asked all the time.. I tried looking at old posts but couldn't see what I was after..

Basacally this is my first entry into any form of video editing.. I have a Canon HV20 and needed a way to get footage from tapes to DVD.. Kdenlive seems like the perfect tool for this and much more..

So at this point I have my Ubuntu 8.10 PC setup with Kdenlive 0.7.1 and its all working.. I am able to capture from the camcorder in HDV mode..

Question - What format should I choose for my project?

I have chosen HDV 1080 50i because as far as I know thats what the camera uses..

Question - Does it make any difference if I plan on creating a standard DVD?

Next is capturing..

Question - Why are the captiure files limited to 1000MB (or what looks like 5m10s)??

I tried putting two of the capture files side by side on the timeline but when playing from the first to the second file there is a breakup in the picture which isn't cool..

Question - Is there a particular way to join the 1000mb capture files together on the timeline to create a smooth clip?

Thanks for any input on this..
