How can i use Kdenlive with melt 0.8.2 new version recently released. This release of mlt fixes the memory leak issue, so that i can work with kdenlive smoothly and not eating my memory.

If you are using Ubuntu, mlt 0.8.3 and kdenlive 0.9.3 are available from here:-
https://launchpad.net/~sunab/+archive/kdenlive-svn Other than that, you will have to use the buildscripts. Oh, and it looks like kdenlive is waiting to build at the moment. |

Can't get the recent sunab builds to work: almost all codecs are broken from kdenlive's perspective, proxy clips won't work for probably the same reason ... it's a mess. I'm waiting now for a week for the developers to sort out this mess what happened during transition of libav/ffmpeg/mlt -- but they are probably on their well-deserved vacancies and nothing gets fixed. Sigh.

I have not had any problem lately with sunab's svn. I installed the latest this afternoon and apart from one small bug, which I'll stick in "Bug Chat" below, it seems to be working fine. Actually, it's rendering a Project right now. I haven't created a proxy today but they seem to be working.

I've updated the kdenlive-release ppa with mlt 0.8.2 as it's just e bugfix realease. The kdenlive-svn ppa is only there for testing purpose with kdelive and mlt git snaphots.
@Dive0 : can you detail your install : ubuntu version, libav/ffmeg version ? regular/ppa ? |

updated with melt 0.8.2, memory eating bugs are gone almost. previous version of mlt was unable to open the project at all and ate all my 2gb of ram. Still i don't know why kdenlive needs 500mb above for simple editing of Full HD footage.

Okay, deinstalled kdenlive, mlt and frei0r from sunab-cvs ppa and installed from sunab-release ppa. But the same problems persist.
My system: Kubuntu 12.04 64bit, most recent packages installed. Trying to render a proxy clip gives: ffmpeg version 0.8.3-4:0.8.3-0ubuntu0.12.04.1, Copyright (c) 2000-2012 the Libav developers built on Jun 12 2012 16:52:09 with gcc 4.6.3 *** THIS PROGRAM IS DEPRECATED *** This program is only provided for compatibility and will be removed in a future release. Clutching at straws here, but I have libmp3lame0 and libsox-fmt-mp3 installed. How about you?

I was wondering whether to query that, easy to miss that one.

Argh, see also the old thread here: http://www.kdenlive.org/forum/solved-unsupported-video-codec-libx264-libmp3lame-rendering-lossless-hq-natty-64bit
The problem are the missing additional codecs, where this package conflicts with other dependencies, so you need to really tell the package system to install libavcodec-extra-53! But rendering still doesn't work: missing codecs... :( |

Nope, both libs for mp3 are installed. Does not help.

So reading that thread above, you did try deleting the kdenliverc in ~/.kde/share/config, did you?
|

yes, deleted it over and over again after each step. There is something borked here in kdenlive and tools not properly covered by dependencies.

You said you removed mlt etc when you re-installed, but have you checked that there are not any old mlt versions lurking with:-
ls -la /usr/lib/libmlt* .................... also I have libx264-120 libavcodec-extra-53 libavformat-extra-53 libfaac0 and others I suppose. Just in case. PS: Have you checked the Wizard to see what codecs you have? |
