I know how to set start and endpoint in KINO video editor. And then cut Start & END parts away. How I cut something in KDEnlive? |

Ok Set points on Clip Monitor & drag and drop. No cutting on timeline? |

Easiest way (on timeline) is to move to the cutting point, select the clip and use the short-cut 'Shift-R', other option is to use the Razor Tool. Check the manual for more insight, there is a chapter 'Splitting clips in the Timeline'.

edit: Just installed the latest SVN version and found out that using in and out points also can be used to cut directly on the timeline! Either I haven't been paying attention or these devs (& feature requesters) are going mad with innovation |

Hello
I'm kind of stuck at the same question, here's where I got so far: [*] open video and placed 2 markers (start & stop) inside the clip monitor [*] ctr+shift+i will put it to the timeline (I assume that's necessary for any further processing) [*] now I'm done already - so: how do I store it? I assume it's the red render button. Hitting it confronts me with a whole lot of choices - which one is best for minimum quality loss? The original file was: -PAL/MPEG-2 @720x576 in anamorphic widescreen -2 mp3 audio tracks but I only need track #1 |

@ttill: private media archive. I do have a lot of tv recordings that need to be cut with minimum quality loss and minimal amount of re-coding.
Am I totally on the wrong foot with that recode button? Is there an easier way? |

The render button is the right way to go:
If you don't care about file size and really need the best quality available (with probably no difference you can see ;) compared to normal profiles) select "Lossless / HQ" in the drop down at the top. Then it depends with which player you want to play them later on. I suggest choosing either "MPEG-4" or one of the H.264 ones. |

Hello ttill
I didn't find lossless/hq in any of the render menus, so I set up a profile on my own (none of the existing ones where quite a fit to my dvb-t low-bitrate recordings) So I set one up on my own looking like this: f=mpegts acodec=mp2 ab=192k ar=44100 ac=2 vcodec=mpeg2video s=720x576 b=3200k pass=2 I figured out the bitrate parameter using mediainfo on the original files. Now the processed file look fine, I don't see any severe quality loss. Thanks for your help |
