Problems with Add Clip

Tue Feb 24, 2009 5:15 pm

I am new to Kdenlive and I am really excited about the whole project but unfortuantely I haven't gotten very far into the program. I can't seem to add video clips to the timeline, so I can't do much with the program because of it. Here is a sample error that i receive when I try "Clip /media/Kevin's External Harddrive/music video.flv" is invalid, will be removed from project. I have tried different types of clips, avi, mpeg, flv, nothing seems to work. I always get the same kind of message. What am I doing wrong? I hope I can get this resolved soon, because I really want to use this program. I orginally tried it on the artistx 0.6 liove dvd and have now tried it with the live dvd provided on the site in hopes it was problems with the distro, but that wasn't the answer. That's all I have for now, if you need more info I will do my best to provide it. I hope to get some feedback soon, and I appreciate any assistance rendered.

All the video decoding stuff for Kdenlive is done by MLT which relies on FFmpeg (libavformat). If Kdenlive cannot open a video format, it is probably because your FFmpeg installation is outdated or that you need to install extra codecs for FFmpeg.

Which distribution are you using ? You should be able to find some info in your distro's forums.

I can not comment on the live image. However, can you play the files with 'inigo' on the command line? If not, how about 'ffplay'?
