Is there any way to support importing and exporting of .mkv files within Kdenlive?

You should be able to import mkv files by dragging them from a konqueror or dolphin window (or any other file manager) into the project tree. Export should be possible but you will need to create a custom rendering profile with the correct avformat parameters.
