How to determine the in/out points from project time-line?

Using 0.7.5 on Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty x64.

I have a time-line where tracks 2 & 3 contain multiple 5-second segments from an original clip that is 180 seconds long.

The clip contains a combine harvester travelling directly towards the camera.

The time-line is intended to speed up this approach by showing a series of discontinuous 5-second segments so the 180 seconds is condensed to 30 seconds, with the combine appearing to 'jump' closer via Dissolve transitions.

I originally located the first two 5-second segments from the clip and placed them in the time-line for testing, and then spent quite some time figuring out how to get the watermark station-ID and vertical scrolling credits at the end of the time-line.

Now I have that sorted out I want to return to selecting those 5-second segments from the clip.

The problem I have is that I cannot find a way to determine the in/out cue points in the clip of the 5-second segments in the time-line. In other words, from examining (for example) the 5-second segment in track #3 I cannot determine where that is in the 180-second clip it comes from.

Is this possible?

short answer: no

long answer: you can proceed in two ways
- before cutting your 5 seconds clips, add markers on the full clip, and then cut it snapping to them (i often set markers before cutting)
- if you want to recover in and out points of an already cut clip, place markers on its first and last frame, then drag its borders to expand it to the full, original, clip. the markers you've just set will show the points

Thanks for your reply. It unexpectedly led me to discover it is possible to determine the in/out points!

I was about to drop markers at the current start/end of the clips in the time-line prior to dragging their starting handles. I hovered the mouse over the end of a clip whilst trying to move the current cue-point marker to that location. The clip's end-handle icon began flashing and then a tool-tip appeared showing "Clip duration: xxxx".

I then moved the cursor to hover over the clip's start-handle icon and a tool-tip appeared showing the starting position "Crop from start: xxxx".

There appears to be a problem in that these tool-tips won't reliably appear. It seems the focus needs to be moved to another object before they will appear again - probably why I never discovered them when exploring previously.

So it is possible but you have to try hard to get the tool-tips to appear sometimes.

I don't see any option from the context menu for clips in the time-line to get that information. Which version of kdenlive are you seeing that on? I'm running 0.7.5+svn20090818.
