I'm new to kdenlive editing and rendering. I did quite a bit of editing and rendering with some video editors in Windows, and it was necessary to shut down some background processes to free up some memory AND to prevent some audio-video sync problems.
I'm assuming processes such as compiz and cairo-dock use up a bit of memory and cpu usage, and it seems to me it would be advisable to shut them down when working with kdenlive. Does anyone have any suggestions for any other processes running in the background that could interfere with audio-video sync or by stopping them to simply speed up rendering? BTW - I have pulseaudio enabled and set up according to some forum entries found here and ubuntu forums and I seem to have no audio and video problems with playback of clips in kdenlive. Have yet to do any rendering in this newest version of kdenlive. Karmic 9.10 kdenlive 0.7.6 |

Avoid keeping the video clips you are working with in an encrypted partition or encrypted folder. Encrypting/decrypting data on the fly uses a good amount of CPU time.

Thanks for the reply. That won't be a problem for me. Those files aren't encrypted.
