hi there, today i upgraded my kubuntu amd64 install to 9.10. later i decided to give another try to kdenlive: the first time i messed around with it it was unusable because of continuous crashes. things don't look a lot different, i must say. i attempted to load a few avi (lavc+mp3, encoded with avidemux from flv) video chunks but i could not either play them or get kdenlive to work because it crashed on almost every action i attempted to perform. after about 10 crashes in 10 minutes i gave up wondering if there is some hint to avoid this. if video clips need to be transformed in some other container, format, codec, or what the heck. my graphic section is onboard nvidia on asrock MB, the system is amd64 dual core 3100 mhz with 4 gb ram and i wonder how other people can get kdenlive to do something useful. where do i have to look please. i hate to say this but the last time i needed to do an extensive work of video editing i was forced to get a couple of windows machines with commercial software. crashes happened, but once or twice in a day with machines way less powerful tan this one and with periodic file->project->save i was able to do the job. but it is utterly disappointing that i can't find a single software that actually does something. pitivi, cinelerra, openmovieeditor, and now kdenlive seem to be all useless for some reason or another, why can't we have a tool that works for real?

If you experience so many crashes, that is most probably due to a install of configuration issue.
First, check which MLT / MLT++ versions are installed and make sure you only have MLT / MLT++ 0.4.6 and no older version installed. Also, you don't tell which Kdenlive version you are using... make sure to use the latest: 0.7.6 Then, check that link about problems with the pulseaudio server that caused crashes and sound issues: http://kdenlive.org/forum/remember-remove-pulseaudio-if-using-kubuntu-karmic |
