I am using ubuntu 9.10,
i noticed that i have to use the "extras" lib libraries instead of the ubuntu libav to make kdenlive work, whenever i try to install the "extras" libraries i end up having to update ffmpeg also to use the extras which is complicated i like kdenlive but why cant kdenlive use both libraries for ubuntu users? when i use the "extras" library it screws up everything and i cant even watch any videos after that, it just makes things complicated any other easier way to install kdenlive? i had kdenlive installed using .deb but when i have updated kdenlive was removed id like to install it again but with all the libextras that i have to work on it just makes it complicated |

>when i use the "extras" library it screws up everything and i cant even watch any videos after that,
The "extra" libraries just add extra codecs, so I don't see why they would make things worse? They don't for me. Maybe you could be more specific in your questions and setup so we can help out? What debs did you you install and from where? What is wrong with ffmpeg that makes it need to be updated? |

i installed all the dependencies, when i install the dependencies, it would remove the ffmpeg,
and then after i have installed all of the dependencies and try to install kdenlive again i get this error kdenlive: Depends: ffmpeg but it is not going to be installed so whenever i install ffmpeg, it would remove the kdenlive dependencies, and when i install the kdenlive dependencies it would remove the ffmpeg so how do i install this? i also installed ffmpeg-extra its not reading it |

Wherever you got those ffmpeg packages (0ubuntu3~tj~ppa1k), they seem to have b0rke your system. Please uninstall them, remove the guilty PPA (OpenShot) from your repositories, then try again.
If it's still broken, come back to ask. Sorry, but it's too hard to help when you have "twisted" your Ubuntu installation with unsupported repos. |

i removed the OpenShot from my sourcelist
tried to install ffmpeg again but still getting this ffmpeg: Depends: libavcodec52 but it is not going to be installed or libavcodec-extra-52 (<4:0.5+svn20090706-99) but 4:0.5+svn20090926-0ubuntu3~tj~ppa1k is to be installed Depends: libavdevice52 but it is not going to be installed or libavdevice-extra-52 (<4:0.5+svn20090706-99) but 4:0.5+svn20090926-0ubuntu3~tj~ppa1k is to be installed Depends: libavfilter0 but it is not going to be installed or libavfilter-extra-0 (<4:0.5+svn20090706-99) but 4:0.5+svn20090926-0ubuntu3~tj~ppa1k is to be installed Depends: libavformat52 but it is not going to be installed or libavformat-extra-52 (<4:0.5+svn20090706-99) but 4:0.5+svn20090926-0ubuntu3~tj~ppa1k is to be installed Depends: libswscale0 but it is not going to be installed or libswscale-extra-0 (<4:0.5+svn20090706-99) but 4:0.5+svn20090926-0ubuntu3~tj~ppa1k is to be installed if i use the libavcodec52, libavdevice5, libavfilter0, libavformat52, libswscale0 it allows me to install ffmpeg but then when i install kdenlive, it will remove these files and ask for the "extra" versions, why cant kdenlive use the non "extra" files? |

You seem to still have the Openshot PPA installed!
1) Remove it from the third party repos 2) make sure to update your apt package database cache 3) Try again To answer your question as to why Kdenlive needs the -extra variants. Only they contain all the codecs Kdenlive (as compiled by sunab) needs to run. |

It's not a package, mind you; it's a repository. There's a separate menu option for them. It's listed under "Third-Party Software". Remove/uncheck it there, then hit Reload, then try again to install ffmpeg extra packages.
Just in case, here's the documentation on repository managment over at ubuntu.com https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Repositories/Ubuntu Good luck! |

i got it installed,
i uninstalled everything, ffmpeg and all the other dependencies, then i let kdenlive install ffmpeg instead of a standalone install, this works |
