Transparent Movies?

Mon Nov 23, 2009 11:27 am
Hello,

Does Kdenlive support transparent movies?
I'm a screencaster and try to use Kdenlive to encode my screencasts combined with a lower third on top. This lower third (and intro and outro) movie is being imported into Kdenlive, then split apart and then dragged to their desired positions.

While playing back (and probably exporting) Kdenlive displays the transparent background as black.

Best,

Are you using a composite transition to combine the lower third overlay with the base screencast video?

I think what you want to do is possible in kdenlive, but the best way to learn how is to watch the kdenlive tutorials.

I'm so sorry for not finding that button. Just did a right-click on the clip. Add Transition > Composite. Then stretched the new Composite transition in the timeline over the whole clip and that worked.
Perfect!

Now the only thing I need to get working is H.264 export.
Thanks a lot! That tip kicked my ****!

If a picture is worth a thousand words, a video tutorial is worth 30000 words per second (at 30 frames per second) :).
