Panasonic SDR-S150 takes videos in 16:9 format but with 704x576 pixel
Video-Codec according to Kdenlive is MPEG-2
Audio: MP2 (MPEG audio layer 2)
the shots are saved on SD cards as .MOD with an additional MOI document .MOI
Kdenlive can't read the .MOI documents and the .MOD are converted into 4:3 format. I could not find any fitting project-profile which would not convert to 4:3 (though I did not try every single one).
So I created my own profile with 704x576 pixel PAR 1/1 and DAR 16/9
Now Kdenlive produces clips with PAR 1.090909 instead of 1.
I can "force" each single clip into PAR 1, but that takes for ever with several hours of clips.
How can I solve this?

I think that when a 720x576 movie is played back 8 pixels are removed each side of the movie to 'tidy the edges', giving 704, so your camera is doing that for you, being frugle.

If you use a 720x576 16:9 or 4:3 project, insert a black colour channel on the timeline and your 704x576 clips (without scaling 720x576) centrally horizontally on another channel, over as a comp, you should be able to work with a 720x576 profile, the 8 pixels vertical bars each side when played back should disappear, haven't tried it myself however. :-)

The problem is actually that Kdenlive produces black bars on top and bottom. So the 704 pixels horizontally are fine, but its changing the 576 pixels vertically. And as I said, I can force it to PAR 1:1 - then it's showing a perfect frame, it's just a hell of a lot of work to do that by hand, if you have a big amount of clips.
What I don't understand is, why Kdenlive is changing the profile setting, when importing the clip.

Maybe that is a point for the Bug report???

PAR 1/1 at 704x576 is not 16:9. With that PAR and resolution, the DAR is 704:576. How can you expect that to work?

I know that and I don't expect it to work, but it seems to work.
The camera produces a PAR of 704x576 in a DAR of 16:9 - odd but it does.
With the profile mentioned above Kdenlive imports the clip and changes the PAR to 1,090909. In clip properties I can force it back to PAR 1 and then it shows a DAR of 16:9.
I don't understand why that is working and I don't understand why it is changing the PAR in the first place during import.
Maybe I just miss a point somewhere?
