I have wasted hours and hours trying to get Kdenlive to capture DV video from my JVC GR-DX67EK camcorder. I have re-installed Kdenlive several times - most recently following the guide in this forum and still have no results. I am told to plug my camera and press the connect button. I am told that Kdenlive is initialising. 1 hour later it is still initialising. I have tried opening dvgrab with Kdenlive only to be told that there is an error while parsing ( what does that mean ? ). I have made myself a member of both video and disk groups. Please help me - in simple terms - before I go either mad or back to Windows XP. There is no fault with the camera- it works with Windows movie maker.

Good morning,
I am running ubuntu 9.04 on a new laptop ( i.e. pretty fast and with lots of memory ). I have had to install firewire via an express card adaptor but this seems to work as I have had it going ( sporadically ) on Kino and Kdenlive. I do not understand how to access dvgrab or to know if it is working. It is definitely installed - in file system usr/bin and I have a copy on my desktop. I have it set to open with Kdenlive and with Kino. Do I need to open it manually ? If so how ? As a novice to the mysteries of Linux I do not fully understand your instructions. What should I actually type in my terminal ? Is there a way of checking a good firewire connection ? Thanks njs |

Hallo
when I want to capture from my videocamera I need change the permissions to the firewire file. It's very easy. I open my Konsole, then I change to root, after this,I write "chmod 777 /dev/raw1394", then I have permissions and I already can capture from kdenlive. It's necesary that the videocamera is plugging, and I will need change the permissions the next time that I started kdenlive I'm a new kdenlive user, but I'm happy whit kdenlive Sorry my english, I'm spanish |

Daniel ( and Pablo ),
Wow! I just got my camera working in both Kdenlive and Kino. I am not quite sure which bits of your advice did the trick but thank you both. Something to do with raw 1394 kernel not loaded and failure to read /write /dev /raw 1394. All I have to do now is try to work out how to use the programmes ! njs |
