How to run Kdenlive

Sat Feb 27, 2010 1:55 am
This is going to sound like a really stupid question to many of you, but I've gone through the entire installation of Kdenlive (successfully, as near as I can tell) on my Mac via MacPorts. But I can't seem to find anywhere any instruction on how to actually launch Kdenlive. Everything I've been able to find assumes the program is running, and I can't figure out how to make it run. Help!

Okay, finally found the executable file, but now it won't launch. I get the "application quit unexpectedly" error in Mac OS X. Running 10.5. Any thoughts?

Make sure you follow the instructions during installation about running dbus from launchd. Also, follow the directions displayed during install about changing the file ownership or permissions to your local KDE preferences. Then, you need to run kded4 followed by kdenlive. If you use Spotlight, that is an easy way. If not, try 'open -a kded4' followed by 'open -a kdenlive'

Kdenlive mainly uses MLT, which uses FFmpeg libraries. The warning you received is because Kdenlive may also use the ffmpeg command line utility for 2 features: the Transcode function in the Project Tree and Capture. Capture is not supported on OS X, but Transcode. MacPorts puts binary utilities in /opt/local/bin, which is not in your default PATH. I do not recall at the moment how to address that and my mac not available at the moment, but you might get along just fine without Transcode unless you want to edit AVCHD in which case you will want to transcode it to DNxHD. But you might look for a hint on macports.org.

hello,

somewhat similar to veenie's issue:

i can't open Kdenlive 0.7.8 on my intel macbook pro with mac os 10.6, installed via macports according to the Kdenlive guide.

when trying to start the application via terminal or spotlight, the symbol shows in the dock, but the program won't run. ("application not responding").
executing kded4 beforehand didn't help...

could you help?

many thanks in advance!
