I use the 768x576 PAL project settings to create in-house short ads for upcoming events.
Works great :^) but if I add a 640x480 resolution (MJPEG) clip to a project, the clip appears to be automatically scaled UP to 768x576 rather than appearing in the timeline as a 4:3 ratio image "inside" the 756x576 project border as I was expecting. I can add a composite transition and scale the clip down to give this result, but the output rendering seems "fuzzy" .. All i really want was the 640x480 clip in the 768x576 timeline at "actual size"..... FIX: (thanks ddennedy) untick "FILL" option in Composite transition and make 100%. clip will become "actual size" in project. |

If you use the Affine transition or the Pan & Zoom effect there should be no loss because it takes the clip at its original resolution.
You might want to open a feature request for an option to choose whether the clips should be automatically scaled or not. |

When using the Composite transition, turn off the Fill option. FIll causes it scale upward to fit within the rectangle. It will always scale down to fit in the rectangle so just use a rectangle at 100% size with Fill off and position accordingly.

thanks guys - ddennedy: unticking "FILL" worked as you said - it allowed me to see the 640x480 clip "actual size" in the 768x576 project :^)
I don't want to bug the developers over trivia, but it would be handy to have some option on the "add clip" to at least warn the user that an imported clip will be scaled up (or I suppose) down .... I guess hardly anyone will be adding VGA res clips to a larger res project anyway!!!! thanks again for the help - much appreciated. brad |
