Does Kdenlive takes advantage of 6 core cpu like AMD Phenom X6 1090T ??? Is it better choose an AMD Phenom X6 or an Intel i7 8x-9x ??? Thks |

It depends on the video format you will render to.
See here: http://www.kdenlive.org/forum/usin-all-cores And here: http://www.kdenlive.org/forum/kdenlive-and-i7 I use an intel core i720qm and rendering to MPEG4 it uses all 8 virtual cores. I did not change any of the default settings in the render profiles. Rendering to MPEG2 uses two cores, if I remember correctly, but it's a while ago that I tried... |

I have to render H.264 1080 25p. It seems to me that with this format Kdenlive uses many cores. Right ??? And what about the choice between AMD or Intel ?? I see the Kdenlive recommended hardware (video pro) for AMD Phenom X4. Then AMD is faster then Intel with Kdenlive ??? Thks |

hello ... is there anybody of kdenlive staff here ???? do you recommended AMD Phenom X4 for advanced work then I suppose you did some test of AMD and Intel quad core. Is it right ??? Bye |

Unlikely that anyone here will have definitive information concerning which processor/manufacturer to use. You are probably over thinking it. I would recommend you google various hardware forums for cpus and motherboard reviews if you are interested. I have a i5 quad core (i5-760) and it works fine for my purposes. Just pick a real quad (or 6 core if wish) in your price range and be happy, it will give you good GUI interactivity and use multiple cores/threads for smooth playback and editing. As noted above in the linked threads, the rendering is not optimized to utilize all cores in some/many circumstances so additional cores may not help much and may not be worth the extra $.

and what about the video card ???? It seems to be not very important because the hardware recommended for kdenlive suggest only a recent video card with dual output. Thks |

It depends on the games you would like to play... ;-)
OK, to be serious... You have answered the question by yourself: Get a recent video card and you are done. As I do not believe that we will get something like GPU ENcoding in near future you will not need a high end GPU for Kdenlive. |

@mrcrowley, if you want us to give hardware recommendations, please send us some high-end AMD and Intel CPUs, Graphics cards, and Mainboards, so we can do some tests.
