How to render a copy?

Fri Sep 24, 2010 4:29 pm
When I have used the application AVI Demux in the past, I have been able to save a simple edited video composition without encoding anything, that is, I can set the video to "copy" and audio to "copy".

Is it possible to save your composition as a copy of the original video and audio if no effects have been added in KDEnlive?

Thanks.

i don't see why not but i don't really understand why you would use kdenlive for this if avidemux does this way easier. you'd probably have to create a new profile which matches your source video. is your purpose just to get it into a different container? i just don't see the point of this but i could be missing something obvious.

Hi, thanks for the reply. The reason I'm not doing this in AVI Demux is because the app has some kind of problem reading the source audio. This isn't an issue in KDEnlive.
Also, I'm not just trying to change the container here, I'm cutting and joining various video clips from my digi camera.

Could I add something similar to...

ffmpeg -i video.mp4 -i audio.aac -vcodec copy -acodec copy newvideo.mp4

...to a custom profile, and if so, what would the video.mp4 be called (possibly myKDEnliveVideo.kdenlive)?

I noticed KDEnlive has some kind of parameter settings, but the syntax looks a little different than the example above.

Kdenlive cannot compose video files without rendering them. This would is technically only possible only with a very limited set of edit operations and only on a limited range of video formats. Therefore we do not plan to support this.
