Copy a PAL DVD into NTSC

Sun Oct 24, 2010 2:35 pm
Hi,

I need to copy a PAL DVD into an NTSC DVD. I want to play it on my NTSC T.V. I do need to preserve the menus of the original DVD because it has language selection for different dubbing. Can Kdenlive do it? If yes, how? I'm new to Kdenlive.

Thanks,
ttill

Kdenlive should be able to transfer PAL to NTSC but it cannot do anything about the DVD structure. Might be possible with a DVD authoring software though.

There a way better tools (read: specialised) for dvd-conversions, a non-lineair editor like kdenlive should not be your first choice for that purpose.

And please note there is no such thing as a ntsc or pal dvd, these are analogue standards for colour component modulation, they have no meaning in digital video. What you probably mean is dvd manufactured for the usa (resolution: 720x480, frame rate 30000/1001 aka 29.97 frames per second) vs. a dvd manufactured for a.o. european countries (720x576, frame rate 25 fps).

most people with at least intermediate level of knowledge of digital video understand what it means when someone writes NTSC and PAL DVD - no need to be staunch here.
