I want to do something very basic: Inserting a picture as background in my movie.

I just dunno how to specify/download the pic ?

Could you please shed light on that point ?

Add the picture as a clip to the Project Tree. Then, it just acts like a video clip. From here, see some video tutorials about using Composite to make it a background.
