My OS of choice for the last few years has been linux and I use kdenlive for my video editing. I notice however there is a large upcoming change in processor architecture from AMD which are APU's. I only bring this up because AMD blogs "By optimizing Corel VideoStudio Pro for AMD Fusion APUs, we can take advantage of the APU and its unique GPU-compute capabilities to speed up video processing tasks. Complex effects apply in real time. You can experiment and get the results you want, right away. By simplifying the editing experience and taking advantage of the power of the new hardware, we will deliver a video editing experience with instant gratification and no waiting to break your creative flow. Waiting for results is becoming a thing of the past." I thought that sounded pretty neat, with the introduction of APU's tasks like video editing can be optimized to a whole new extent. I was just curious if the kdenlive team had already started thinking about working on providing APU optimizations in the same way since it seems APU's will start to make up a very large base of consumer PC's in the future. (I for one am giddy about the thought of having a laptop in 2012 that uses a Trinity architecture and DDR4 Ram, though that'd probably be in H2 of 2012) Of course I don't expect this to be even considered a priority right away as the first APU based PC isn't going to come out for a couple days and no one in their right mind would consider video editing on a Zacate. However, Llano will be following fairly soon and that should prompt a massive increase in the number of people with APU's. In any case I'll just follow up by saying love your software and keep up the great work. |
