I worked for in a news network, and the usual problem with our playback is viruses; as I could solve this by migrating the playback to linux, my dilemma is the editing software, or the playback system.
All of the editing machines are connected to the playback, and the playback machines will play the edited news, the format of the video is .avi, so that wouldn't be a problem. My problem is, most of the time we are using live chargens. Now my question, does kdenlive support chargens that are adobe formatted? Cause if so then I can recommend this to our company. |

For playout there is a brilliant playout server called melted..
I'm working with Kdenlive for news editing without any problem.. And for live chargen there's a software called CasparCG, but it runs under windows plataform, but it is opensource |

i am also interested in that topic. i work for a local community tv station. we currently use kdenlive for editing on one box.
maybe a little bit off-topic but: with our live shows we currently use adobe premiere to show graphic inserts over firewire, which is very limited because we can only use the video mixer's ability to wipe. we also use premiere for the playout of videos clips that are shown during live shows. having kdenlive's preview window to output not only to SDL but also to SDI or firewire would somehow be useful for this situation. we use melt at the moment for our playout from the archive. it plays an XML with the video clips and a kdenlive title on top as an overlay. we plan to use melted in the near future for our playout server. i would be interested if others have similar use cases where they use kdenlive or other mlt based software |
