I have a Canon HD HFs20 camera and shot several clips no more than a couple minutes long each. I copied the footage from the camera to the computer and can open and play in several movie players with out a problem. I also have Ubuntu 10.10 and kdenlive 0.7.9 and am running on a computer with a Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2400 CPU @ 3.10GHz and 8gb of RAM and a VERTO GeForce GT240 video card. I purchased all of this with the hopes to edit movies on Linux. I currently use Final Cut Pro on a Mac system but wanted to see what was available on Linux to see if I could use it.
Here are my problems and questions: 1) When I open a project that has lots of clips in it, I've noticed it takes quite a few seconds to get ready to let me start editing. Is there something I can do to speed this up? 2) When I select a clip of only a couple minutes long, and attempt to move the slider in the view window, it takes forever to update the video. If I attempt to just click in a spot to move the slider to it takes 5-10 seconds before the videos moves to that spot. Is there something I can do to make this more instant? This would make editing a video take forever at this stage. 3) Once I set a few clips in the bottom window and attempt to play the video, it starts to play but then stops in front of some clips and takes quite a few seconds to get going again. This makes editing the video almost impossible. Am I doing something wrong? I do not believe my hardware should be the issue here as its pretty substantial. I'm also running SSD hard drive for the OS. I am also using Compressed .MTS files from the camera and not sure if that is what is causing all the problems or not. I really would like to evaluate your software as it seems to be exactly what I need if I can get it to actually work. Also, am interested in possibly helping out on development and wondering if you can point me to any getting started documents on source code layout and processes to help one get started on the project. Thanks, Glenn |

you are using AVCHD. see the many other threads here about seeking performance problems with AVCHD, transcoding, and proxy editing in the next release.
