I'm trying to make online training videos for my online business. is kdenlive capable of recording chapters and displaying them in a list at the side of the video, similar to what camtasia does?

The only thing I am aware of like this is DVD Video. Maybe Camtasia is generating some sort of Flash movie that contains some list of chapters. Most video formats do not have a chapter list; only formats that have some sort of interactivity can do that.

So, yeah, it does appear Camtasia is generating Flash SWF with a menu, and no, Kdenlive can not do that. That is quite a unique feature, but if you have Flash Builder or other SWF tools you can do that manually. But I doubt many here can help you with that.
