Simple editing

Sat Apr 23, 2011 6:59 pm
Hi

Newbie here so sorry if this is a simple question. I have an mpeg file which I wish to import into kdenlive and then perform simple editing, cutting the beginning and end of the video. My question is how do I save the file? Do I always have to render the file which takes an hour or can I simply save in the original format with my edits preserved?

Thanks
Kyle

Kyle,

Not sure if this is the answer you're looking for but...

When you click "Save" in Kdenlive you're not changing the original video/audio files you imported. What you are saving is a file that contains references to those video/audio files, how they are used in your project and what portions are used. IOW, it will save the fact that you are only using a portion of the video file.

Rendering is the process of creating a single file on your computer combining all the imported files, edits, effects, transitions, etc.
