Not even 20 seconds into editing, I pause and restart a video a few times to find the best place to cut, and the program crashes completely.

This is the error message I receive:

What does this mean, and what can I do about it?

With Ubuntu 11.04 amd64 - Kdenlive 0.8, when I press the space bar in order to pause the video, I often get crashes too...

exactaly the same problem. I can tell you that at the end where it says
"Unable to start Dr. Konqi"
That's probebly the problem
googling Dr. Konqi shows me that it appears to be a low level something, most of it is in german... any help here?
I did hear that you could enable OpenGL for video playback (in the prefrences menue)
and it might help, however, the video takes a substancial preformance hit unless you have a dedicated graphics card.
Still crashes even with that fix......
(tried on 2 diff computers, one MINT10 one MINT9)

Wanted to point out that this problem also exists in GNOME (what I am running)
Also, if anyone knows how to revert back to the old .7 version of Kdenlive I would like to do that..... seems the new one is just too dang buggy, old one was nice and stable.

I guess you can delete sunab repository, uninstall and install Kdenlive again just using official ubuntu repository.

in package manager, you have to hit ctrl+e to pull up a downgrade package window
you also have to downgrade all the dependincys that kdenlive requires.......
It's just plain not fun.....

ok ignore what I just said.... here is a detailed guide to downgrading to .70
First pull up your package manager or software manager
in the software sources box, uncheck the sources you added to upgrade kdenlive to .80 (basicily uncheck everything with the word kdenlive in it)
now refresh your package list
do a search for kdenlive
install kdenlive from the search you just did
done
this installs the ubuntu built version of kdenlive, it's much more stable
when you start kdenlive it will give you the first run window, make sure it says .70 bla bla bla numbers and you know your on the right version.
