Make sure you don't have multiple versions of mlt installed.

This command will show what you have:
ls -l /usr/lib/libmlt* /usr/local/lib/libmlt* This is the output of that command on my 32-bit ubuntu 10.10 system: ls: cannot access /usr/lib/libmlt*: No such file or directory lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 15 2011-05-15 06:24 /usr/local/lib/libmlt.so -> libmlt.so.0.7.3 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 17 2011-05-15 06:24 /usr/local/lib/libmlt++.so -> libmlt++.so.0.7.3 -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 410726 2011-05-15 06:24 /usr/local/lib/libmlt.so.0.7.3 -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 162179 2011-05-15 06:24 /usr/local/lib/libmlt++.so.0.7.3 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 17 2011-05-15 06:24 /usr/local/lib/libmlt++.so.3 -> libmlt++.so.0.7.3 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 15 2011-05-15 06:24 /usr/local/lib/libmlt.so.4 -> libmlt.so.0.7.3 That info shows the only version of mlt I have installed is 0.7.3 and it's located in /usr/local/lib. |

That's some mess you have there. Not only do you have two versions but there are copies installed in two places. The ones in /usr/local/lib probably got there when you tried to build from source code. The ones in /usr/lib probably got there from installing mlt packages, but could have also been from a source code attempt depending on your build options.
Uninstalling the mlt packages you have added should remove some/all the mlt stuff in /usr/lib. To remove the stuff in /usr/local/lib you could try the "sudo make uninstall" command from within the mlt source code directory. If you feel confident enough you can remove stuff by hand via the "sudo rm" command. |

the sudo rm command seemed to do the trick :) it starts right up without any errors or anything! thank you for the help,and i'll be careful next time.lol

I should mention that in addition to the versioned libmlt* libraries mentioned above, there are additional mlt libraries that get installed in directories /usr/lib/mlt/ or /usr/local/lib/mlt/. Those don't seem to have version numbers, which is why I didn't mention them earlier. When cleaning up an mlt installation it's probably best to delete/reinstall those too. You can see them with this command:
ls -l /usr/lib/mlt /usr/local/lib/mlt |

Since they don't seem to have version numbers it's hard to say which ones should stay. So what I would do is delete all of those. The correct ones will come back when you either rebuild mlt from source code or install a ready made mlt package.

what command would i use to delete all of them in those folders,or should i just delete both folders?im afraid to build it from source,so where can i download the prebuilt mlt library for it?thanks

You forgot about the "sudo rm" command already?
Prebuilt mlt libraries are found in mlt packages. I am afraid of prebuilt libraries, so I build from source code :-). |
