Black frame

Wed May 18, 2011 5:28 pm
I have a huge black frame around my avi video after rendering, which remains even in fullscreen playback. What should I do to be rid of it, please? I would like the video to take up the maximum of all available space when it is played back with vlc. A couple of black bands on both sides is OK, when the proportions of the video don't correspond to the proportions of the window.

Hi.

Usually, black frame appears because your source video clip has not the same aspect ratio as project format.
For example, if you are working with DV video, you must create a project with PAL DV or NTSC DV depending on your format. Can you give us some information about which format have your source clips and which project profile you are using?

The format of the video clip can be seen in the Clip Properties dialog (just double click on a clip), and the project format can be seen the "Project->Project Settings" menu (it is called video profile)

Double-clicking on the clip in "Project tree" gives me a cursor, to edit the name of the file I suppose. And double-clicking on the clip once displayed in "Clip monitor" makes it start and stop immediately after.

Sorry I'm so ignorant about it all...

I started with m2t files converted to avi by avidemux. The dimensions of the resulting files are 720 by 576. Everything appears to be alright until I do the rendering. Then the resulting file has a wide black frame all around it.

I can crop it in avidemux but I loose resolution. The problem is I cannot put more than three bits of video together at one time. When I try this the remaining ones look black, there is sound but no pictures.

So I assembled the bits 3 by 3, then cropped the files, then put 3 cropped files together, and the result looks overcompressed.

are you rendering as DV video then? That would give you the same output as your input

I've seen this happen when one has an old version of mlt that is not consistent with their kdenlive version.
