0.8 default install from AV Linux 5 Live-DVD (Debian)
I want to create fast-motion for a section of a clip on the timeline. The effect `Motion | speed' looks like it should do what I want, but the description says "Process audio using a SoX effect" (???), and on the Effect Stack there are zero controls to govern how much faster (or slower) it should go. On `Project | Clip Properties | Advanced' there is a `Force frame rate' control, but that applies only to the entire clip. I cannot find a similar dialog for a portion of a clip. Is there a means of effecting fast-motion (or slow-motion), and how? |

So damn frustrating...
Found a tutorial on YouTube for this precise action: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jDBb3LYiH4w Booted up kdenlive, and none of the instructions worked, as none of the options were there anymore. The video was uploaded Oct 31, 2009, which is barely 8 months ago. Why do you do it, developers? Do you live in an earthquake zone, perhaps, and therefore think it normal that the ground constantly shifts beneath your feet? Arghh! |

Hi Alex,
2009-10-31 is some 20 month ago, the developers did not skip 2010. ;-) Just a word on the development: You are using version 0.8. If a developer is at the point when he or the team says "this is how we wanted it to be" they will call it 1.0. Any version below 1 is software in motion and you are free to use it or not - if you use it you have to expect changes with each release. Often the developers pick up ideas and change requests from this forum. They do not want to make the users angry but the software better. Editing with Kdenlive 0.8.1 from around 2011-04-27 with mlt 0.7 (and not 0.7.2) I was able to add a speed effect to a clip last week. I had to downgrade mlt because Kdenlive did not import the mpg2 clips and stalled. Maybe one of these search results might help you: If you google with »"Process audio using a SoX effect"« (do not leave away the inverted commas) you might find a solution or the reason for your problem. Cheers, Achim |

@al25fps: "2009-10-31 is some 20 month ago ... if you use it you have to expect changes with each release ... They do not want to make the users angry but the software better"
Yes. I do apologise - I was at the height of my frustration. I'm a programmer myself (mostly scripting) and I work as hard as I can to keep an update acting in the identical fashion to the old, just with added facilities or features. "If you google with..." That search found a result at `www.kdenlive.org.527goo.com' - good to know that even G can mess up! Here is the current correct result: http://www.kdenlive.org./forum/speed-effect-all-screwed-latest-sunab-build OK. So `Motion | speed' *is* correct, it is just that as a side-effect of giving access to vast numbers of inoperable audio effects, one or more useful, and previously-accessible, effects got rendered non-functional. Many thanks to the developers for a quick remedy. PS The number of hours put in by myself whilst trying to solve this issue are in double-digits. Only then did I make this post. Beware assumptions. |

AlexK, the post you linked to was mine, there was a blip in a version of Kdenlive where speed effect had no options. Latest version is all sorted, so hope you got this resolved

@moorsey: thanks for your response.
I updated from SVN & discovered that yes, it *was* now operable. I also discovered that it leaves the audio at the original length. Essentially, you either run the clip muted, or do not use it. I choose the latter. |

Yes the speed effect cannot handle audio yet.
An option would be to use for example Audacity to stretch the audio by the same amount you stretched the video. |
