Hello folks.
I thought I'm having problems with kdenlive and mts files (see here: http://www.kdenlive.org/forum/kubuntu-kdenlive-mts-files). All of a sudden I found out that it's not only mts files. It's misc mpeg too. No matter which files I put in, the proxy always crashes. Why can that be? I tried it on two different machines (in VBox) I'm running: Kubuntu 11.04 in a VirtualBox (single CPU, 1,5GB Ram, 3D acceleration enabled) Kdenlive 0.8, installed according to the Ubuntu instructions (using Sunab's alternative repository) ffmpeg 4:0.6.2-1ubuntu1 installed with kpackage kit Same setup in Ubuntu too, just to make sure. Whenever I add a clip it shows me "proxy crashed". What can that be? Here are my proxy-settings (don't tell me anything, but it's the standard as it came): -f mpegts -acodec libmp3lame -ac 2 -ab 92k -ar 48000 -vcodec mpeg2video -g 5 -deinterlace -s 480x270 -b 150k Anybody any input? Thanks. WorstCases |

proxy is half broken in Kdenlive 0.8. this issue will be fixed in Kdenlive 0.8.2 that will be released soon. if you want to try the development version, see my instructions in this other thread:

Install the package "libavcodec-extra-52" (sudo apt-get install libavcodec-extra-52).
Should help. |

I appreciate the input guys. I did stop using kdenlive for now. I like experimenting, but currently just don't have the time.
At this point I do need a program which works out of the box with the HD files my camcorder produces. Attention Admins: You might want to erase the following lines, if it's not OK to post it. I just wanted to tell everybody who might be in the same situation like me that the Win program in the Ultimate Version from the manufacturer starting with C (five letters) is the best bet for me at this point. Not free, but works out of the box and to me has advantages compared to the other cheaper paid ones. Still looking forward to kdenlive in the future. I love open source and don't mind donating for a good program, which I'm sure kden is, but not at this point for me. Thanks again for the great work so far. WorstCases |

Ok, you've probably gone, but did you try setting up an alternative proxy line as I suggested in the other post and another suggestion is to totally remove ffmpeg related files like libavformat, libswscale so there is no risk of compatibility problems, then reinstall sunabs PPA.

Just to throw my 2 cents in here too, I've had major problems with "Proxy Crashed" over the past few weeks. I tried everything, totally different proxy lines, un / re-installing stuff, made no difference.
I tired making the proxies by hand (using the HASH as a filename from the project file, and using the proxy line from a terminal, then editing the project file by hand in a text editor), but still got the 'proxy crashed' when I opened the project. After a bit of reading, I realized it was being cause by time differences in the proxy files (although why it always happens I have no idea). With one urgent project, and every single file showing 'proxy crashed', my computer not powerful enough to edit 1080p files directly, I ended up using a work around: Comment out the parts of the code that detected different length proxy and recompile. After that, proxy worked perfectly, including for new files I added to the project. I understand that if I was ever to use the last frame of the rushes on the timeline, it would corrupt my project, but taking that in mind, I was able to successfully complete my work. This really needs to be looked at.. quite an annoying bug, as it potentially prevents people using Kdenlive for HD projects. |
